Cracking Pecans
Apparently there is a method to cracking a pecan so you can remove the nut whole. My boys would grab the cracker and go to town but then leave hundreds of little pieces of pecan all over the table. My mom gave me a bit of advice that works well.
The first think you have to remember is to not try to crack the pecan into; as mentioned before this will just crush the nut. Instead take the cracker and aply a little pressure to the top and bottom of the nut – just enough to make a little crack in both places. Now you can take a part the pecan and most of the time can take out two perfect halves. It works for me!
