Going, Going, Almost Gone!
Wednesday morning all of the leaves on our pecan trees decided they were tired of hanging on and just let go – all at once. Yesterday while we were having school, we just sat for awhile and looked out the window at all of the leaves falling – it was very pretty. (Pititful attempt at a title, huh?)
But now – we are knee-deep in leaves. Well, not literally, but they are very deep and I am very sure there are some pecans hiding under all of those leaves. I got out there with a rake yesterday but had the good sense to quit before I got carried away. You see, I knew that kind of activity (wimp that I am) would make me very sore the next day and actually I was a little sore this morning so really I was quite fortunate. Our neighbor recommended blowing the leaves out of the way by mowing over them. Dick considered it but he thinks there are just too many and he may have to just rake them.
I really thought we had probably gotten all the pecans we were going to get. I certainly couldn’t see anymore in the trees (someone needs to wear their glasses); but that was before yesterday. With all the leaves gone, I can see that we have many, many more pecans to go before this season is over.
Have you ever seen someone so excited about pecans?

Oh, my Mom would be ecstatic with you if she was there. We had HUGE pecan trees when we lived in TX and loved picking them in the fall (and enjoying them in all sorts of recipes).
