DaVita Diet Helper

I have a couple of kidney patients reading my blog now so I thought sharing this link might be helpful to them, although I am sure most of them have heard of DaVita.  DaVita is a great source for kidney disease and dialysis information.  Their site includes tools to help you find a dialysis center (the one I go to is a DaVita center), find a kidney doctor and much more.

The think I am finding especially helpful, especially now that I have talked to a dietitian and have my “orders”, is their Diet Helper.  You should know that even those of you who are not kidney patients might find this tool very useful.  For me, I typed in the amount of potassium, phosphorus and sodium that I am allowed and clicked “enter” to find months and months of carefully planned out meals, including snacks.

The recipes are calculated for one serving but could be easily doubled or tripled to feed your whole family.  (If they were to ask my opinion, I would suggest they add a function to do that for you).  Planning out detailed breakfasts and lunches is a little different for me.  I’m used to grabbing a sandwich or a bowl of cereal but now I have to be a little more careful about what I eat and making sure I eat enough, especially protein.

DaVita is a comprehensive site for everything kidney related.  If you have questions, it is a good place to start.
