About

I am a Christian. I grew up in a Christian home and don’t remember a time I didn’t know God or want to know Him better.
I am a wife. My hubby and I married in 1993. I was 27 and my hubby was 38. I think everyone was beginning to wonder if I would ever get married but I found my true love and am so very happy! We’ve had our struggles like any married couple but we have a good relationship and love each other very much.
I am in my forties! When did that happen? I was born in 1966 and graduated in 1984. A lot of people my age already have grandchildren and that seems so weird – but the math adds up!
I am a stay at home mom. After 7 years of trying to get pregnant, I had William in 2000 and Jonathan in 2002 and it has been a fabulous ride! I love staying at home with them, watching them grow up and teaching them. We are also a homeschooling family and love it! I wanted to homeschool before I was even married with kids!
I am a computer junkie. I love all things computer – internet, web design, graphic arts and just typing! I have had a blog since William was 5 months old and I love that form of communication.
I live in the country. We bought a house with almost 3 acres in 2007 and it is everything we need. It has four bedrooms and an extra room (den) that the boys use as a playroom of sorts. We have blackberries, muscadines, and pecans.
I have Polycystic Kidney Disease. PKD is an inherited disease and several members of my family have or have had PKD (my mom, aunt and 2 cousins). In January of 2009 I began Peritoneal Dialysis at home so that I could continue to homeschool. You can read more about that on my blog.
About my hubby: Dick is 11 years older than me. We met in Florence at our church and were married in 1993. He has a teaching degree but has been painting for the better part of (at least) 25 years. Dick is especially good (in my opinion) with color and I “let him” pick the colors when we are painting around the house. One of our favorite jokes is that he lets me pick the colors. He asks, “What do you think of this color?” and I pick them out by saying, “I like it!” I am another of those women who say that their husband is their best friend. It is so wonderful to be loved so completely and so unconditionally. We are very blessed to have each other – and we know it!

William is our oldest son. He was born in December of 2000 after we had tried to get pregnant for 7 years. He is a sensitive and loving little boy and already loves God very much! He is a good artist, has great penmanship and loves to drum! We bought him his first set of drums over a year ago and he has taught himself a lot. He is very good to be so young. He says when he gets older he wants to play in a worship band and we are very okay with that! William is an organized person, like his Dad, and he likes to help clean around the house. What a blessed momma I am! William was 6, almost 7, when he asked Jesus into his heart.
Jonathan is the youngest and we often call him “Jon Jon” although sometimes he tells us he is getting too big for that. It will be a sad day when I can’t call him my little Jon Jon anymore! I am not sure how it happened but William often calls Jonathan “little fellow” and it is the cutest thing. Jonathan is just a big sweetheart and is also very loving. He has a very giving heart and often tells us when he gets bigger he wants us to come live with him and his children or that he is going to have a store and we can buy everything for free!
Jonathan loves math and pretty much taught himself most of his times tables while he was still in kindergarten. He can add things up in his head better than I can and is constantly amazing us! Give Jonathan a screwdriver and he’ll take almost anything apart! Right now he is very interested in batteries and making sure all of them are in working order. In a house full of battery-operated cars, trucks, games, etc – that is no small order. Six is a big year for Jonathan! In October, right after his birthday, he asked Jesus into his heart but is waiting till he is a bit more confident before he gets baptized. In January of 09 he taught himself to ride his bike without his training wheels – how proud he was! How blessed we are!
Michael is part of our family and I thought this would be a good place to tell you about him. About 7 years before Dick and I met, Dick had a child from another relationship. This child was adopted locally (although he didn’t know it at the time) by a family in our town. I believe Dick met Michael and his mom for the first time in the summer of 2006 and they exchanged a few emails over the next couple of years. In March of 2008, we met Michael for dinner while he was in town on his college break. I remember that night like it was yesterday. I had thought often about him as he grew up and getting to meet his was literally a dream come true! He is tall and good-looking like Dick (wink!) and he is so. smart! This past year we have kept in touch often through email and Facebook and when he was home for Thanksgiving/Winter break, he came over for dinner one night. What fun that was and the boys just loved him. We got to have several visits with him (he even visited me in the hospital) and during that time we told the boys that they had a big brother and it was Michael. I wish you could have seen their excited faces! So, Michael is definitely a part of our family – we love him!
